Okay, so Supanova 2009 has been and gone, and now I’m back home back sitting behind my desk sorounded by piles of aftermath from the weekend.

There was simply too much awesome stuff that happened so I’m going to attempt to put it all down in point form. Please comment below if I left anything off. I would like to give a big thank you to both Mark, and Tom for their respective help this weekend. Mark for being my “do this, do that” man, and Tom for taking well over 150 photos. And thank you to everyone that stopped by for a chat or to buy a book – Last Call For Sin is without a doubt the best book I’ve put together and the response to it has been great, I feel relieved.

- Friday afternoon I arrive at the hotel, only to be informed by room is no longer available due to renovations and I will “have” to be comped a room on the 5th floor in the ‘executive suite’ …..that was when I knew it was going to be an awesome weekend. This suite, ugh man…you have no idea how lush it was, it was nicer than most apartments I’ve been inside. So that rocked.
-Went down to The Dome with young Mark and we set up the table and generally dicked about for a few hours, and we ran into Hayden and Red, who both danced around for awhile.
- Left the venue around 8, came outside to see Derk Benedict sitting on a bench outside, in the cold smoking a fucking huge cigar, while wearing a cravat to boot. The faceman apparently still has it.
-Went back to my awesome suite and watched the Sarah Connor Chronicles, because that show is the fucking shit.

- Saturday morning started really slow, it wasn’t until about 11:30-12 before sales really started rolling in – and they were good, and steady for the entire weekend. I came away from the show this year with the best profit I’ve ever turned AND I gave out so many damn mini comics to everyone as well.
- Saw bunches of familiar faces from last year, (for me at least) it’s always such a nice atmosphere
- My table neighbors were awesome – I was glad they were rad cats
- Living out in the middle of nowhere, as I do I don’t get to meet other creators too often but i remedied that this weekend, I met Christopher Sequeira, Jason Franks, Brendan Halyday, Matt Emery & a shit ton more who I cannot recall at this moment. It was really fucking nice to meet people I only know through forums online and they’re all awesome guys who’s work I’ve got right now spread over my desk reading through it as I write this. I also got to meet Tim McEwen and feel inwardly embarrassed because we’ve met before but I had forgotten, so I had a facepalm moment there. Chris Wahl stopped by my table and said hey, which made my day even more excellent. It was just awesome to finally meet these people.
- Julie and Jozef from the ASA came around and I got to talk to them, which I was really happy about, I didn’t end up making it to their talk on Saturday night but I really wanted to talk to them about a few things which I did
-On Saturday night myself, Mark and the ‘Melbourne Indie Scum’ consisting of Jason, Matt & Brendan sojourned to the Homebush Bay Tavern for dinner and drinks. Probably not the best idea on my part to choose this location as the rugby clash between France and Australia was taking place at ANZ stadium, 5 steps next to the tavern, so it was crowded and noisy but the food was good and the company was also great. I spent much of the time playing with some fucking rad brush pens (which Brendan kindly gave me one of his…stoked) Oh yeah, remember the band Creed? former Creed frontman Scott Stapp was sitting behind us at the tavern, looking lonely and alone. I turned around at one point to gawk at his poofy haircut only to see him nervously perched on a barstool, alone, looking around like someone was going to shiv him or something. All in all I had a great night and I hope the other guys did too.

- Sunday morning was equally as packed by 11, Supanova got some great media coverage on the news on Saturday and I think that really helped – Sunday was no less busy than Saturday from what I could see. I spent chunks of Sunday afternoon away from the table because by 3-4 its starting to quiet down (but I did make my last sale of the day at around 5:45pm right before closing)
- I also coughed up the money and got a sketch by Tim Sale. I couldn’t help it but standing there while he drew was pretty fucking nice. I’ll grab a photo of the daredevil sketch he did in the next day or so.
- anytime I get a chance to chat with Stewart McKenny is always really nice. Both he and Wendy are genuinely nice people and it was great to see them again.
- Finally had a chance to have a chat with Supanova organizer Daniel Zachariou, which I was glad about.
- when 6pm rolled around I was packing up the remainder of books and prints I had, folded the tablecloth up and wandered out. Great weekend all round.

I did give the skate deck and journal away. The deck went to a guy in some kind of Hawaiian commando costume (who I got a photo of in the morning, but alas he was gone by the time I drew the prize so it’s getting posted to him.) And Jason Franks ended up winning the journal, which was pretty cool.

I think ‘Manfighters’ is my favourite book I got at the show this year. Really fucking funny book.

Of the myriad of photos that were taken I uploaded a selection of them to flickr and you can check them all out here. Now I can’t wait for next year’s show.

If I’ve left anything off, jump in and comment away!
